That bowl of soup looks like it will fill the belly and the soul. I am glad you made it safely to the hostel and hopefully can get a good night’s sleep now.
Tip: hostels are known for bedbugs. Do not put your suitcase on the bed. Do not lay out your clothes on the bed. Does Vietnamese food still have a French influence? That’s what it was known for before the Vietnam war. Any expressed animosity towards Americans? 😘
In the 12 hostels I’ve stayed in, I’ve never had a problem with bedbugs. Perhaps I’ve simply been lucky, but I think it’s more that hostels have improved a lot, and society is still catching on to that fact.
Some of the food names are derived from French, such as ca phe (bet you can guess what it means). I haven’t experienced any animosity.
